Justin Bieber joins hockey superstars for celebrity match

29th Jan 17 | Entertainment News

Justin Bieber joined hockey superstars for a celebrity match to honour Alan Thicke on Saturday (28Jan17).

The 22-year-old Baby hitmaker made a big impression on sports fans when he took part in the National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Celebrity Shootout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, where he joined hockey legend Wayne Gretzky's winning team.

Bieber even managed to get hit in the face by one of his all-star opponents during the match, and completed successful zone entries and drawing penalties before chipping in offensively, picking up an assist on Canadian former hockey pro Eric Lindros' goal.

The singer was also pinned against the glass in a violent tackle by Arizona Coyotes player Chris Pronger earlier in the game.

He was the latest addition to the celebrity shoot-out roster, with Cuba Gooding Jr., producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Carter Thicke, son of late actor Alan Thicke, also on his team.

Members of each team wore a special patch on their jerseys in tribute to the Growing Pains star and huge hockey fan, who died in December (16).

Although he did miss two penalty shots, Bieber scored a goal as time expired, prompting Gooding to joke, "Twenty-five shots later, thank God he made it."

However, the American Horror Story star was full of praise for his teammate. "I was shocked at how good the kid can play," Gooding, who scored the winning goal, added. "He really has nice skills, and he's a real sweet kid, too."

The opposing team included actor Taylor Kitsch and Bones star David Boreanaz, along with NHL legends Ray Bourque, Jari Kurri, Larry Robinson and Scott Niedermayer.
