To the Latin community, global sensation Ricky Martin has thankfully been releasing a steady stream of new music over recent years, including the GRAMMY Award-winning album A Quien Quiera Escuchar in 2015. For his U.S. audience though, the energetic "Come With Me" and world-inspired "Adios" have had to quench the long thirst for now. We will just forget about the horrid "Mr. Put It Down" feat. Pitbull to keep things moving.
For the artist's upcoming eleventh album, the Maluma collaboration "Vente Pa' Ca" had already been serviced as a single back in September, to give a taste of the possible artistic direction. The new sound proved to be another hit for Martin, becoming his 16th Latin Airplay chart topper. That success could have influenced the recent decision to re-release the track in two different, alternate versions. One featuring K-pop singer Wendy of South Korean girl group Red Velvet, the other featuring former The Voice Australia rival Delta Goodrem.
"Vente Pa' Ca" now receives the tricky Spanish to English translation that tends to kill the momentum and creativity of most Latin pop songs. However, the emotion and energy is kept intact when Goodrem's sultry vocals are paired with an infectious reggaeton beat. While no one could have predicted the combination of talents featured on the new release, all in all, everything comes together rather smoothly to create a passionate affair between real-life friends.
Martin and Goodrem are struggling to come to the realization that a good thing has finally presented itself right in front of them. Love should always be approached with caution. However, most of the insecurities and uncertainty vanish as the song progresses and the two get closer. "If you want me like I want you, baby I won't live without you, let out dreams come through tonight," they seductively sing to one another, just before the club floor-worthy production blares through the speakers.
While Martin's ability to convey sex appeal and romance in the Latin-pop environment does not come off as much of a surprise, on "Vente Pa' Ca" he sounds recharged and focused. More importantly, Goodrem's effortless vocal performance steals the spotlight as she matches Martin's intensity and alluring qualities. She not only tackles the second verse solo, but commands the bridge, the highlight of the release. Could the song signal new artistic challenges in her future music career?
"Vente Pa' Ca" appears to be targeting just the Australian market, where Martin and Goodrem have had a strong presence in recent years, but it would not sound out of place atop Billboard's own dance charts.
