Summer Beauty Must-Haves

Now is the time of year when I start switching up my makeup routine – not only do I opt for a lighter application of products, but I also try to choose formulas that have a less heavy feel so my skin can really breathe. When you’re aiming for a natural glowy look like I do in the summer months, I recommend avoiding powders as much as possible (with the exception of the one below) because most often they end up creasing and/or looking too cakey.  This means swapping out your blush & bronzer for a cream or gel version that can blend seamlessly and give you realistic-looking color.  For those of you who are looking for some new beauty products to try for the warm-weather season, I thought I would share my personal favorites for creating a dewy, natural makeup look + effortless beachy hair and soft skin:

summer beauty must-haves

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen
This is hands-down the best face sunscreen I’ve tried because it’s so unbelievably lightweight – it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing any at all!  I love the way my makeup glides easily on over it with no stickiness and, because of the way it’s formulated (it minimizes pores), you can use it in place of your primer & skip that step completely!

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Filter
I’ve been raving about this holy grail product for over a year since I discovered it.  Yes, it is expensive, but I honestly haven’t been able to find anything else for less that provides the same results – and because a little goes a long way, it lasts forever.  I use this every day under my CC cream to give my skin a lit-from-within look (I wear the Light/Medium shade). Last time I was traveling, I forgot to pack it and I noticed a HUGE difference in the way my skin looked and felt without it (never again!).

IT Cosmetics Perfect Lighting Radiant Touch Concealer
Every other time of year, I use a heavier duty concealer for my under-eye area (a combination of this + this) but in the summer, I need something more hydrating and luminescent.  This wand has pearlized particles in it to give you a radiant glow + it’s packed with hyaluronic acid, peptides & hydrolyzed collagen so you get the anti-aging benefits every time you use it!  I use the Radiant Light shade & swipe it under my eyes, then dab lightly with my ring finger to blend it in.  If your dark circles are really severe, you could try layering this under or over your usual concealer for some added brightness.

BECCA Hydra-Mist Setting Powder
The first time I tried this powder, I was so confused because it literally feels wet when you apply it to your skin. But, that cooling sensation feels so good on a hot summer day.  What I love about this is that it sets your makeup & holds it in place without giving you a completely matte finish – I swear, it’s magic!  I bought the small size to start so I could test it out, but after a week, I immediately went back & bought the larger size.

Iconic London Prep Set Glow Spray
I was watching a tutorial on YouTube where the makeup artist used this product & the results were incredible.  So, I ordered it right away and, needless to say, it did not disappoint.  I spray it on after I’ve done all my makeup and it  gives such a nice warm subtle shimmer.  You can also use it all over your body before a special event or a night out.

Julep Eyeshadow Stick
I try to keep my beauty routing as pared down as possible in the summer, which means simplifying as many steps as I can.  I love eyeshadow sticks because you can apply them in one quick swipe, smudge a little & you’re done!  I got this one in Bronze Shimmer and it’s the perfect shade for summer – best of all, it doesn’t settle into creases or dry out by the end of the day.

Flower Beauty Blush Bomb // Benefit Cha Cha Tint Cheek Stain
These are my two favorite liquid blush options because they blend so well, are affordable & work with different skin tones.  I bought the Flower Beauty Blush in Melon, which is a pretty pinkish coral. And I’d say the Benefit Cheek Stain has more of an orangish hue, which might be better for medium to olive skin tones.

Revlon Kiss Lip Balm // Babo Botanicals Lip Tint // Physicians Formula Butter Lip Cream
I’ve been testing out a bunch of different lip products with SPF in them and these 3 were the ones I was most impressed with.  These are a great alternative to lipstick or gloss + they’re ideal for the beach or when you’re going to be out in the sun all day.  I bought the Revlon one in Fresh Strawberry (a pretty pale pink); the Babo Botanicals one is a muted dusty rose and the Physicians Formula one is a bright glossy red.

CeraVe SA Lotion
I’m a die-hard CeraVe fan ever since my dermatologist recommended it to me when my post-partum skin was breaking out like crazy (it was the only thing that helped).  So, I was anxious to try this product when it hit the shelves.  After 3 weeks of using, I was shocked & thrilled to find that it completely cleared up my keratosis pilaris (those pesky bumps on the back of my arms).  I also recommended it to my friend who has eczema and she said it was a total game-changer for her skin too!

Paul Mitchell Color Protect Locking Spray
If you color your hair in any way, you definitely should be protecting it before you head out in the sun.  This leave-in spray protects against UVA & UVB rays so your color doesn’t fade.  After I’ve showered, I spray it into my wet strands and then style as usual – I like that it’s really lightweight so it doesn’t weigh down my fine hair and, as an added bonus, it gives it a little extra shine.

Fekkai Soleil Beach Waves Spray
It seems like every time I find a good texturizing spray, it gets discontinued & I have to start the testing process all over again.  I had one that I previously loved from this same brand, so I was hopeful this would work for me.  The smell is absolutely heavenly and, even though it’s a small bottle, you only need a little bit to scrunch through your hair for quick loose beachy waves (with no crunchy finish!).
